Rehab or Skilled Nursing to a CCRC

In many cases, seniors will have an accident or illness that requires a short-term stay in rehab or a skilled nursing facility. When this happens, families and seniors can grow concerned that their care needs may increase in the future.

It’s a good idea to start planning for long-term care needs as early as possible. If it looks like your loved one is on track to leave skilled nursing with their health restored, applying for a Continuing Care Retirement Community (CCRC) is the next logical step.

Continuing Care Retirement Communities (CCRC)

At a CCRC, a senior is able to “age in place.” While seniors begin their care by living in an independent apartment, further care options exist on the same facility in case they are needed down the road.

Entering a CCRC does require planning ahead, since seniors need to pass a medical examination prior to starting care. If they are found to be in good health, they are able to sign an agreement which determines the cost of care, no matter if it needs to be increased in the future.

Choosing the Best CCRC for You

There is a myriad of CCRC options available in the Philadelphia area. Costwise, expect to pay a one-time admittance fee ranging from $65,000-$455,000. Then, you will be charged a monthly fee, costing anywhere from $1,850-$8,790.

There is quite a lot of variance in these costs, and that’s why John works with seniors on a case-by-case basis to determine what type of contract they can afford.

Rehab or Skilled Nursing to Personal Care or Memory Care

When there are complications with the recovery process during a temporary stay in rehab or skilled nursing, a plan for future care must be established. Memory or personal care is the best option in many cases, but evaluating your senior’s ability to carry out activities of daily living (ADLs) is paramount for determining the next steps for their care.
